On Friday, May 4, 2012, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) published Funding Fairness: A Report on Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance System. The report, chaired was commissioned by the WSIB to review Ontario’s workplace safety and insurance system and make recommendations to ensure the long-term sustainability of the program by addressing its $20 billion unfunded liability.

Attached is a Health and Safety Advisory from the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association detailing the safe use of quick couplers for heavy equipment attachments (e.g. buckets, ripping teeth, hammers, and other tools attached by “quick couplers” instead of traditional “pins”).

On May 1, 2012, the Standing Committee on General Government unanimously approved Bill 8, formerly The Ontario One Call Act, with only minor changes. The Bill, now titled The Ontario Underground Infrastructure Notification System Act, 2012, will proceed back to the Legislature for its third and final reading . If passed in the Legislature, The Ontario One Call system would be established, creating a mandatory, not-for-profit, single point-of-contact call system for all underground infrastructure location services in the province.
